Our clients bought a 1993 farmhouse style home and knew the interior layout wasn’t functional and the design was dated. Their dream was to live in a midcentury modern style home and they had a vision. The bones of the house were great but with so many individual rooms it felt closed off and segmented. To create a more modern feel, the first floor was opened up by removing interior walls and adding steel beams. This
allowed natural light to shine through the entire space and improved flow. The owners now have an incredible, beautifully transformed home that functions well on many levels and is a sincere homage to midcentury modern design.
The most dramatic change was opening up the front rooms and creating a natural flow for the family and for entertaining. The focal wall with the walnut wood and metal railings set the tone for the entire home. The changes to the exterior were also dramatic with the new siding, cedar accents and garage doors. The green paint and cedar wood tones were thoughtfully chosen to compliment the woods surrounding the home and without any changes to the shape of the home, it looks like a different place.
Everything! There was such a
transformation to the home. But some of the items that brought a little extra excitement were
the fireplace clay coating, the custom metal railings inside and out, the wood accent wall and the stunning tile throughout.
